Uludağ University and the Bologna Process

The Bologna Process is a reform process that began with the ‘Bologna Declaration’ published by the European Union in 1999 and aimed to create a comparable, transparent and highly competitive ‘European Higher Education Area (EHEA)’ in Europe by 2010.

The primary objective of the Bologna Process is to ensure that citizens of countries within the EHEA can move freely across Europe for the purposes of studying or working, and to make Europe a preferred destination for people from other regions of the world, both in terms of higher education and employment opportunities. What is not intended within the European Higher Education Area is the standardisation of member states’ education systems into a single, uniform higher education system. The aim is to ensure that higher education systems remain comparable and compatible whilst preserving their distinctive characteristics. In this way, it is planned to facilitate transitions from one country or higher education system to another, to ensure the mobility of students and academic staff, and to increase employment opportunities.
