Somalia's Amoud University Visits BUU

In line with its internationalization vision, Bursa Uludağ University (BUU) continues to strengthen its academic ties across the African continent.

A delegation from Amoud University, one of Somalia’s leading higher education institutions, visited BUU on 10 October 2025. The visit culminated in the signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities.

The visiting delegation, led by Amoud University Rector Prof. Dr. Mohamed Muse Jibril, included Mohamed Heban Awale (Director of International Partnerships and Projects) and Mukhtar Abdi Omar (Director of Academic Affairs). The delegation was formally received by BUU Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mücahit Özdemir, Coordinator of the International Academic Relations Office, also in attendance.

During the meetings, both parties explored opportunities for joint academic studies, research collaboration, exchange programs, and institutional capacity-building initiatives. The delegation also delivered a presentation introducing Amoud University’s faculties, research priorities, and international cooperation agenda.

In light of BUU’s recent momentum in research performance and its growing focus on research-oriented internationalization, the two sides explored potential collaboration in joint publications and scientific projects. Discussions particularly emphasized areas such as medicine, environmental science, drought, and water management, where Amoud University has an active publishing record. The visiting delegation also expressed their interest in including BUU among their international project partners, noting the university’s strong research profile. Amoud University currently collaborates with various Turkish institutions within the scope of Erasmus+ projects.

The highlight of the visit was that Amoud University Rector Prof. Jibril is an alumnus of BUU, having earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration from BUU. His return to BUU as the head of a public university in Somalia adds unique significance to this collaboration. It reflects BUU’s expanding academic impact across borders and exemplifies how higher education fosters long-term international connections.

Following their official meetings at the Rectorate, the delegation also visited the BUU International Academic Relations Office (IARO). During this visit, they expressed appreciation for the professionalism, clarity, and institutional diligence displayed by IARO staff throughout the collaboration process. The Amoud team emphasized their confidence that this emerging partnership would yield meaningful and sustainable outcomes.

This bilateral agreement not only reinforces institutional cooperation between BUU and Amoud University but also contributes to the broader framework of academic diplomacy between Türkiye and Somalia — two friendly and brotherly nations with deepening multi-dimensional ties.
