Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs)

Serving as soft law instruments that establish a mutual framework for academic cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) reflect a shared commitment to fostering collaboration and building long-term partnerships. Our university signs MoUs with institutions from around the world to activate cooperation in joint academic areas.

We employ these documents in line with our internationalisation policy, institutional priorities, and educational goals:

  • As a research university, we strategically encourage research collaboration and joint academic publications.
  • We implement funded international projects, such as Erasmus+.
  • We facilitate exchange programmes, such as Erasmus and Orhun.
  • We support other academic and scientific activities aligned with mutual interests.

Rules to be Acknowledged

Despite offering a flexible framework for cooperation, the following rules must be observed when signing and implementing MoUs, as our university is subject to broader institutional and national regulations.

  • To sign an MoU, the higher education institution must be officially recognized by YÖK.
  • Prior consent is sought before initiating any specific cooperation activity, meaning that the signing of an MoU does not, on its own, obligate the university to undertake any particular activity.
  • MoUs do not serve as a basis for ad-hoc student or staff exchange arrangements, as these activities are implemented under structured frameworks such as Erasmus or Orhun.
  • The International Academic Relations Office must be notified prior to any cooperation activity under an MoU.
