In line with its strategic vision to enhance international academic cooperation in the Balkans, Bursa Uludağ University (BUU) has initiated a new partnership process with one of Kosovo’s leading public institutions, the University of Gilan “Kadri Zeka”.
As part of the II. Erasmus+ Staff Week held at our university between 13–16 October 2025 by the BUU Erasmus Coordination Office, the Rector of the University of Gilan “Kadri Zeka”, Prof. Dr. Artan Dërmaku, and Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dukagjin Leka, paid an official visit to the Rectorate on 15 October 2025. The delegation was received by BUU Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz. Also present during the meeting were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mücahit Özdemir, Coordinator of International Academic Relations, and Seval Şahin, Office Coordinator of International Academic Relations.
During the meeting, Rector Yılmaz provided an overview of BUU’s research capacity, internationalization strategy, and academic units. In the cordial discussions, which also included references to the shared cultural ties between the two countries, both parties expressed satisfaction with the developing relations at the higher education level. Potential collaboration areas such as joint project applications, research and publication partnerships, and joint degree programs were also discussed. A mutual will was expressed to advance the cooperation between the two universities in a sustainable and multidimensional manner.
The visiting Rector extended an invitation to Rector Yılmaz to visit Kosovo and shared his wish to further strengthen institutional cooperation.
At the conclusion of the visit, a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which had been under discussion since July 2025, was officially signed. The agreement will be valid for a period of five years.
