Azerbaijan Khazar University Delegation Visits BUU

Bursa Uludağ University (BUU) welcomed a delegation from Khazar University, one of the leading higher education institutions of Azerbaijan. The visit began with an official meeting at the Rectorate, where BUU Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz received the distinguished guests in his office.

The four-member delegation included the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, accompanied by representatives from Khazar University’s International Relations Office. Representing BUU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mücahit Özdemir (Coordinator of International Academic Relations), Prof. Dr. Fatih Demirel (Director of the Turkish Teaching Practice and Research Center – ULUTÖMER), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emsal Sinem Salcı (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, International Academic Relations Coordinator).

During the meeting, Chairman Mr. Isakhanli gave a presentation introducing Khazar University. The two institutions signed a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening academic cooperation. This agreement renewed and formalized previous academic ties, particularly paving the way for new collaborative projects in the field of veterinary sciences.

The MoU also foresees cooperation with BUU’s Turkish Teaching Practice and Research Center (ULUTÖMER), including provisions for organizing Turkish language proficiency exams in Azerbaijan.

The delegation proceeded with their visit program at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, carrying out observations and examinations in the laboratories and on the university’s farms.

Cooperation History

The first MoU between BUU and Khazar University was signed in 2013 and remained in effect until 2023. During this period, academic interaction between the two institutions continued actively. For instance, on December 22, 2022, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Girişgin from BUU’s Department of Parasitology (Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) delivered an online lecture to Khazar University’s veterinary students on the topic of “The Current Situation of Honeybee Diseases in Türkiye.”

With the newly signed protocol, BUU and Khazar University aim to further deepen their academic collaboration. Joint initiatives that began within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and ULUTÖMER are expected to expand across the university as a whole.
