General Information
The Tile Art and Design Program is part of the Department of Handicrafts at Iznik Vocational School. The Tile Art and Design Program has been offering education since the 1995-1996 academic year. The first graduates were in 1997. In the 2024-2025 academic year, there are 21 first-year students enrolled in the Tile Art and Design Program and 37 second-year students. Since its inception, the program has graduated 383 students. The program is staffed by three expert faculty members.

Degree Awarded
The Department of Handicrafts' Tile Art and Design Program is a fifth-stage degree program requiring 120 ECTS credits for associate degrees in higher education. Upon successful completion of the program and fulfillment of the program requirements, a "Tile Art and Design" Associate Degree is awarded.

Admission and Registration Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have achieved a satisfactory score on the University Student Selection Exam.
To earn an associate's degree from the Tile Art and Design Program, students must successfully complete all required and elective courses (equivalent to a total of 120 ECTS credits) and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
This program requires a 30-day internship.

Program Competencies
1. Develop the ability to use computer software and hardware at the basic level required in the field.
2. Develop the ability to select and effectively use modern techniques, tools, and information technologies required for applications related to the field.
3. Develop a research or application project that demonstrates professional skills by understanding design elements and principles.
4. Develop a command of effective communication techniques and a foreign language proficiency sufficient to keep up with innovations in the field.
5. Develop knowledge of occupational safety, occupational health, environmental protection, and quality awareness.
6. Develop practical knowledge of model design, mold-making, and mass production in the field.
7. Develop the skills to prepare patterns, draw motifs, and decorate according to the form structure and techniques required by the profession.
8. Develop the skills to design using technical drawing, computer-aided drawing, and programs, and to perform basic dimensioning calculations and draw professional plans and projects related to the field using various software. 9. Respect historical values, possess social responsibility, and possess a sense of universal, social, and professional ethics.
10. Knowledge of fundamental art and basic design, theoretical and applied principles. Identify problems, interpret surrounding objects and works of art through observation and analysis to generate solution proposals. Criticize. Uphold ethical values, and convey information accurately within the field. Think interdisciplinary, define the target audience, and establish relationships.
11. Master the motifs, patterns, and compositional rules used in Traditional Turkish Tile Art and apply them to various forms and surfaces.
12. Knowledge of the materials and technical infrastructure used in tile art.
13. Knowledge and experience in the operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment used in tile production.
14. Knowledge of historical developments in the field within the context of different cultures and geographies.
15. Knowledge and skills in other traditional arts that exhibit similar characteristics outside of one's field.

Program Purpose
The purpose of the Tile Art and Design Program is to train professionals who are capable of meeting the technical and artistic needs of organizations in the tile industry, possessing sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge, entrepreneurship, and analytical thinking skills.

Program Learning Objectives
1. To provide students with an understanding of the historical development of tile art. To teach students the origins, periodic characteristics, and cultural significance of tile art.
2. To recognize and apply traditional tile patterns and motifs. To learn the meanings and usage of classical motifs.
3. To develop tile design and composition skills. To create original designs that comply with aesthetic principles.
4. To provide knowledge of materials and equipment. To correctly use materials and tools used in tile making, such as clay, glaze, paint, and kilns.
5. To implement occupational health and safety rules during the tile production process. To develop safe working habits in the workshop.
6. To provide information on restoration and conservation. To provide students with basic knowledge and skills regarding the preservation and repair of old tiles.
7. To establish a connection between traditional and contemporary art. To produce works informed by tradition and appealing to today's aesthetic understanding.
8. To develop teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills. To ensure social and professional harmony through group projects and collaborative work.
9. To adopt entrepreneurial and professional ethical values ​​relevant to the field. To cultivate individuals who can produce through art and design and who bear professional responsibility.

Graduate Employment Profiles
Graduates of the Tile Art and Design Program are often eligible to work in the private sector. They can perform a variety of tasks, from design to production, in tile workshops and factories. They can also create and market their own designs and products in their own private workshops.

Vertical Transfer Programs
Candidates who successfully complete their associate's degree can transfer to undergraduate programs in Ceramics, Ceramics and Glass Design, Traditional Turkish Arts, Handicrafts, Handicrafts and Design, and Cultural Heritage Conservation and Restoration, provided they receive a passing score on the Vertical Transfer Exam and are within the quotas determined by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) framework regulations and faculties/colleges.

Exams, Assessment, and Evaluation
All students must register for classes at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the classes and 80% of the practical sessions to be eligible for the final exam. Students will be required to take at least one midterm and one final exam for each course. The midterm exam (scores from assessment tools such as homework, laboratory exams, quizzes, etc., may also be considered midterm grades) contribute 40% to the final grade, and the final exam contributes 60%. All exams are graded out of 100. A minimum score of 50 on the final exam is required. Students who receive a letter grade of AA, BA, BB, CB, or CC in a course are considered successful. DC and DD grades are conditional passing grades. To pass a course in which a student receives a DC or DD grade, their overall weighted grade point average (CGPA) must be at least 2.0.

Graduation Requirements
To successfully complete the program, students must pass all courses (equivalent to 120 ECTS credits), achieve a GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00, and complete a 30-day internship.

Classrooms
Our college features technologically equipped classrooms (with projectors and internet access), a computer lab with internet access, a library, and a conference hall.
