History

As an institution committed to fostering contemporary, democratic, and free-thinking individuals guided by reason and science, our university aims to nurture young people with developed senses of personal responsibility, respect for societal beliefs and values, an appreciation of cultural and historical heritage, and an international vision. Affiliated with our university are 15 faculties, 3 schools, 15 vocational schools, 1 conservatory, 4 graduate schools, 25 applied and research centers, 1 research center, and 5 departments directly under the Rectorate.

The foundations of our university were laid with the establishment of the Bursa Faculty of Medicine under Istanbul University in 1970 and the Bursa Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences in 1974.
Our university was officially founded under the name “Bursa University” in Bursa with the enactment of Law No. 1873, published in the Official Gazette No. 15205 on April 11, 1975. Subsequently, with Decree-Law No. 41 concerning the Organization of Higher Education Institutions on July 20, 1982, its name was changed to “Uludağ University.” Later, through the enactment of Law No. 7141, which amended the Higher Education Law and certain other laws and decree-laws, published in the Official Gazette No. 30425 on May 18, 2018, our university was renamed as “BURSA ULUDAĞ UNIVERSITY.”
