Course selections are made through automation during the periods determined in the academic calendar.

Thesis Master programs

Article 6 – (2)   A thesis Master program is comprised of at least seven courses conditional on not being less than twenty one credits in total, one seminar course and a thesis study. Seminar course and thesis study do not have credit and they are evaluated either “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory”. The thesis Master program for one education-teaching period is conditional on not being less than 60 AKTS credit, comprised of at least eight courses including the seminar course, and at least 120 AKTS credit including the thesis study. The student has to get registered every semester for the thesis period following the period in which a thesis supervisor is assigned.

(3)    At most two of the courses that the student will take can be selected from undergraduate courses conditional on not having been taken during the undergraduate education. Moreover, with the recommendation of the department board and with the approval of the Executive Council at most two courses can be selected amongst the courses given by other Universities.

 

 Non-thesis Master programs

Article 11 – (2) Non-thesis Master programs are comprised of thirty credits and at least ten courses with a term project course, conditional on not being less than 90 AKTS. Students should be registered to the term project in the semester in which the term project course is taken and should submit a written project and/or a report at the end of the semester. The term project does not have any credit and is evaluated as either “satisfactory” or “unsatisfactory”.

(3)    At most three of the courses that the student takes may be selected amongst the undergraduate courses, conditional on the student not having taken the courses during the undergraduate education.

The Doctoral Program

Article 15 – (2) For students who are accepted with a thesis Master degree, the doctoral program comprises of at least 240 AKTS credits including seven courses, the seminar course, a qualification exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis study and is a total of twenty one credits, conditional on not being less than 60 AKTS per semester. For students who are accepted with a Bachelor degree, doctoral program comprises of at least 300 AKTS credits in total including at least 14 courses totaling to forty two credits, the seminar course, a qualification exam, a thesis proposal and a thesis study.

 (3)   In doctoral programs, with the recommendation of the department board and with the approval of the executive council, at most two courses for students who are accepted with a Master degree and at most four courses for the students who are accepted with a Bachelor degree can be selected among courses given in other Universities.

(4)    Undergraduate courses do not account for the course load and the doctoral credit.

Courses

 

ARTICLE 18 – (1) Graduate course program consists of compulsory and elective courses offered in the institute departments. The ratio of compulsory and elective courses to be included in the syllabuses, their planning and determination of their place in the program are finalized with the proposal of the board of Institute department, the decision of the institute board and the approval of the Senate.

(2) The principles determined by the Senate are applied in the matters related to taking courses, taking courses in and out of the department, specialization field course and course/thesis supervisory.

 

Scope

 

ARTICLE 34(1) The principles regarding the scope of the doctoral program are as follows:

       ç) In the selection of doctoral courses, students who have been accepted with a master's degree from the doctoral courses offered in other institutes of the University or other higher education institutions with the proposal of the institute department chair and the decision of the institute board of directors, can take maximum two courses per semester, maximum four courses for integrated doctorate students. These courses are counted from the credit load.

d) At most two of the courses to be taken by the student can be selected from the master's courses, provided that they were not taken during the master's education. In case of request, the student can take two elective courses at most from outside the field with the proposal of his/her supervisor and the decision of the institute department board. The total number of courses taken from different higher education institutions, from outside the field and/or from master's degree cannot exceed four.

e) Undergraduate courses are not counted towards course load and doctoral credits.

 

Attendance

 

ARTICLE 19 (1) Attendance to theoretical and practical courses is compulsory. It is required to attend 70% in theoretical courses and 80% in applied courses. Students who do not meet this requirement cannot take the exam and the student is given a grade of "Absent" (D).

 

(2) In cases where force majeure conditions, such as a general or regional natural disaster or epidemic occur, the attendance requirement can be completely or partially removed by the decision of the institute administrative board.

 

Course selection (Implementation Principles)

 

ARTICLE 18 – (1) A maximum of two (2) courses can be selected from the courses offered in other higher education institutions, with the proposal of the institute head of the department and the decision of the institute board of directors. These courses taken from other higher education institutions are counted as elective courses.

(2) A maximum of two (2) elective courses can be taken from outside the field for each semester upon the student's request, the proposal of his/her supervisor, the decision of the Institute's department/article board and the approval of the administrative board.

 

(3) Course on a specialized field is a course separate for graduate program students and for doctoral program students and it starts as of the date the thesis supervisor is appointed by the institute administrative board ; it is to be carried out by the thesis supervisor and to continue until the graduation or dismissal of the student by the institute's administrative board; for students who enroll or register for courses at the beginning of the fall semester, it continues until the beginning of the spring semester except for the dates when the supervisor is on leave and on a report; for students who enroll or register for courses at the beginning of the spring semester, it is to continue uninterruptedly throughout the year, including the semester and summer holidays, until the beginning of the fall semester. Every student must take the course in their specialized field offered. The scope, duration and other principles of the specialization course are decided by the institute board. In cases where the thesis work of the student is managed by two supervisors, this course is conducted by the first supervisor.

 

(4) Students accepted for a lateral transfer are deemed to have passed the Specialization Course of the relevant institute department/article for each semester they are successful.
