Appointment of the thesis supervisor Article (8) – (1) In thesis Master programs, for each student, the department board recommends a thesis supervisor, who is a member of the university staff, until latest at the end of the first semester, and proposes the subject of the thesis specified by the student and the thesis supervisor until latest the end of the second semester to the institute. The thesis supervisor and the thesis subject are finalized with the approval of the Executive Council. (2) The thesis supervisor is selected from the faculty staff according to the qualifications specified by the Academic Council. In case the university does not have a staff member with the required qualifications, a faculty member from another University can be selected as the thesis supervisor by the Executive Council within the framework of principles specified by the Academic Council of the University. In case of a thesis study requiring more than one thesis supervisor, the co-supervisor that will be chosen among individuals outside of the university staff must hold at least a doctoral degree. Non-thesis Master programs Article 13 – (1) In the non-thesis Master programs, for each student, the department board determines, latest at the end of the first semester, a faculty member or a member of the teaching staff who has the required qualifications specified by the Academic Council and holds a doctoral degree, to supervise the student during the course selection and the execution of the term project. Doctoral program Article 18 – (1) For each student the department board recommends a thesis supervisor, who is a member of the university staff, and proposes the subject of the thesis specified by the student and the thesis supervisor to the institute. The thesis supervisor and the thesis subject are finalized with the approval of the Executive Council. The timing of the appointment of the thesis supervisor in the student’s program is specified according to the protocol issued by the Academic Council. However, it is mandatory to appoint a thesis supervisor latest until the end of the second semester. (2) The thesis supervisor is selected among the faculty staff according to the qualifications specified by the Academic Council. In case there is no staff member with the required qualifications within the university, a faculty member from another higher education institution may be selected as a thesis supervisor by the Executive Council within the framework of principles specified by the Academic Council of the University. In doctoral programs, to be able to manage a thesis process, faculty members must have managed at least one graduate thesis which has been completed successfully. In case of a thesis study requiring more than one thesis supervisor, the co-supervisor that will be chosen among individuals outside of the university staff must hold at least a doctoral degree. |

Supervisor assignment ARTICLE 27 – (1) For each student, in the course selection process at the beginning of the first semester at the latest; the supervisor is proposed to by the head of the institute department in the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Educational Sciences and is proposed as the decision of the Institute department board in the Institute of Natural Sciences and the Institute of Health Sciences. The determination of the student's supervisor is finalized with the decision of the institute administrative board. (2) In the master's program with a thesis, the supervisor is selected from among the faculty members with the qualifications determined by the Senate. To become an supervisor, it is necessary for a faculty member to have the taught in an undergraduate program for at least two semesters. In addition, for a faculty member to be assigned as an supervisor, his/her doctorate or associate professorship must be in the relevant field. If there is no faculty member with the qualifications determined at the university, a faculty member from another higher education institution may be selected as an supervisor by the institute administrative board within the framework of the principles determined by the Senate. In cases where the nature of the thesis study requires more than one supervisor, the second thesis supervisor to be assigned may be from the personnel outside the university who have at least a doctorate degree. (3) Given the number of faculty members who can take part in graduate programs and the number of students per current faculty member, the number of thesis supervisory per faculty member for master's programs with a thesis and doctorate programs is a maximum of fourteen, and it is determined to be no more than sixteen students for non-thesis master's programs, excluding master's programs with a thesis and doctoral programs. However, this quota can be increased up to 50% for graduate programs conducted within the framework of the protocol signed with the university and within the framework of university-industry cooperation. (4) Senate principles are applied for the assignment and change of supervisors.
Non-thesis Program ARTICLE 31 – (1) For each student, the supervisor is proposed in the course selection process at the beginning of the first semester at the latest; By the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Educational Sciences, by the head of the department of the institute; and in the Institute of Science and Health Sciences, the supervisor is proposed to the institute as a decision of the institute department. The student's supervisor becomes final with the decision of the institute administrative board. (2) In the non-thesis master's program, the supervisor is proposed by the Institute of Social Sciences and the Institute of Educational Sciences, by the institute department / department; In the Institute of Science and Health Sciences, it is proposed to the institute as a decision of the institute department. In the non-thesis master's program, a faculty member who will advise each student in the course selection and running the term project or a faculty member with a doctorate degree with the qualifications determined by the Senate is determined at the beginning of the first semester. The student's supervisor becomes final with the decision of the institute administrative board. (2) In the doctoral program, the supervisor is selected from among the faculty members with the qualifications determined by the Senate. To become an supervisor, the faculty member must have taught at least four semesters in an undergraduate program or two semesters in a master's program with a thesis. In addition, for a faculty member to be assigned as an supervisor, his/her doctorate or associate professorship must be in the relevant field. If there is no faculty member with the qualifications determined at the university, a faculty member from another higher education institution may be selected as an supervisor by the institute board of directors within the framework of the principles determined by the Senate. In cases where the nature of the thesis work requires more than one thesis supervisor, the second thesis supervisor to be assigned may be from people outside the University who have at least a doctorate degree. (3) With the exception of faculties of medicine, veterinary and dentistry, faculty members must have directed at least one successfully completed master's thesis to manage a thesis in doctoral programs. (4) Considering the number of faculty members who can take part in graduate programs and the number of students per current faculty member, the number of supervisors per faculty member for thesis master's and doctorate programs is a maximum fourteen. For non-thesis master's and doctoral programs, it is determined that there will be a maximum of sixteen students excluding the programs. However, this quota can be increased up to 50% for postgraduate programs conducted within the framework of the protocol signed with the University and within the framework of university-industry cooperation. (5) Senate principles are applied in other matters related to the assignment and change of supervisors.
Appointment and change of supervisor (Implication Principles) ARTICLE 17 – (1) Upon the reasoned written request of the student or supervisor, the supervisor can be changed at the stage of the course or thesis upon the proposal of the institute department board and the decision of the institute board of directors at the Social and Educational Sciences Institutes and in the Institutes of Science and Health Sciences. Except for the essential cases to be accepted by the institute board of directors, requests for a change of supervisors should be made outside the academic year or during the supervisor appointment process specified in the regulation. As of the date of the change of supervisor, the assessment and grade entries required to be carried out by the supervisor are made by the student's new advisor.
(2) In case the thesis supervisor is transferred to a department of a different institute, the counseling of the students who have not progressed to the thesis stage from their current supervisory status is terminated and a new supervisor is appointed to the student by the institute department.
(3) In the last semester of the thesis period, the student's supervisor is not changed.
(4) If there is no faculty member who wants to be a consultant to a student who has the right to enroll, or if the thesis supervisor wants to leave the consultancy, and if a new supervisor is not recommended by the department, the student's counseling is transferred to the head of the institute department.
(5) The counseling of faculty members who start to work at a different institution or retire is terminated. The relevant student is informed that a new supervisor is appointed upon the proposal of the institute department board and the decision of the institute board of directors in the Social and Educational Sciences Institutes and Institutes of Science and Health Sciences.
(6) The supervisory services of the faculty members who are assigned for more than six (6) months due to domestic or international assignment are terminated, and a new supervisor is appointed upon the proposal of the institute department board and the decision of the institute board of directors. In case a faculty member is assigned abroad for more than three (3) months, the related institute is notified of the duration and place of the assignment in written by the related institute department. The counseling of the faculty members who will stay away from the University for more than six (6) months due to a medical report or a similar reason is terminated, and a new supervisor is appointed upon the proposal of the institute department board and the decision of the institute board of directors.
