About The Faculty

Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine is established as Bursa Faculty of Medicine by Istanbul University Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1970. Previously the Hospital of Thoracic Diseases that belonged to the Ministry of Health and Social Support, turned into Faculty Hospital of Medicine in 1974, education started in the same year under the founding deanship of Prof. Fikret Karaca, MD. With the establishment of Bursa University in 1975, it continued its activities as a faculty affiliated with Bursa University, and with the change of the name of the university in 1982, it was named Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, and in 2020, it was named Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine. The Department of Fundamental Medical Sciences of the faculty serves until 1985, and the Clinics serve until 1992 in Görükle campus.

 

Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine education duration takes 6 years. On the condition of demand of the student, he/she can benefit the English Preparation Term for one year duration. The Preparation Term is excluded from the time of 6 years of medical education. Following Uludağ University's participation in the Bologna Process, which was initiated in 2001 to create a harmonious higher education area in Europe, our faculty is one of the first institutions to restructure its educational programs in line with our vision and mission. Credit System Minor and Major Programs Education and Training Regulation has accepted by Uludağ University Senate in 8th of June 2001, and in Faculty of Medicine in 2001-2002 Education and Training Period, together with other faculties under Uludağ University, is started to the Credit System Application in a way that suits regulation. Our faculty was evaluated as an educational institution providing education at international standards by the World Federation of Medical Education in October 2002. It is passed successfully the European Institutional Evaluation Process in 2003. Our Education Program was evaluated by the National Medical Education Accreditation Board (UTEAK) in 2012 and was determined to meet the Turkish Pre-Graduate Medical Education National Standards and was accredited until 1st of January 2018. By mid-evaluation and core-evaluation reports that prepared in this process are found successful as well, our educational program was reaccredited until year 2024.

After the continuous work and evaluation which are executed by education-related committee, especially the Education Commission, our faculty has passed to the “Integrated Medical Education Model” until 2016-2017 Education-Training years.

Undergraduate Education

Educational content; It was created on the basis of courses, course committees and internship programs, where both horizontal, vertical and in-depth integration are applied together, and medicine and related human sciences are taught simultaneously by the relevant disciplines in accordance with the National Core Education Program and Bursa Uludağ Framework Education Program. This education model, enriched with panels, problem-based learning modules, small group training, peer education and simulations, is based on the principle of "passing the semester".

Unudağ University Faculty of Medicine Integrated Medical Education Model contains 3 stages:

Stage 1; It includes preclinical education-training period, consisting of 1, 2, and 3rd terms, serves courses as Medical Sciences, which is integrated as predominantly the body-organ systems of fundamental medical sciences and clinic medical sciences or theme-based committee (horizontal or vertical integration), and Medicine and Human Sciences, which prepares students to clinical education and training in terms of professional attitude and behaviors with physician practices (in-depth integration).

Stage 2; It includes internship programs in which the student acquires the ability to use the basic concepts and principles of medicine in the analysis of clinical cases and thus to choose the appropriate diagnosis and treatment approaches by analytically evaluating the patients he/she sees, to apply clinical skills at a sufficient level, and to develop the ability to display attitudes and behaviors in accordance with professional and ethical values. Includes the Clinical Education-Training process consisting of term 4 and 5.

Stage 3; It includes the Family Physician period, which continues for 12 months uninterruptedly, in which students who successfully complete these periods take a more active role in clinical practices.

A total of 166 Professors, 77 Associate Professors, 16 Assistant Professors and 38 Academics Doctors work within the Faculty of Medicine. Our faculty has trained a total of 8617 physicians since its establishment. Since 30th of September 2021, 8501 of these physicians (98.65%) could be reached, 4475 of whom are specialists, 3275 of whom are general practitioners, and 751 of whom are medical specialization students. In the context of post-graduate education, the number of specialist physicians trained in our faculty since its establishment is 2016, 7 of which are sub-branch specialties.

Our training program, which was accredited in 2012 and reaccredited in 2017, is in the reaccreditation period for the second time.

In our faculty, theoretical education is given in 3 large and more than 30 small classrooms. Almost all of these classrooms have all technological facilities such as computers with internet connection, barcovision and sound system. Our students benefit from the Central Library with its extensive facilities, the Diniz Reading Hall at Bursa Uludağ University Faculty Hospital and the Learning Resources Center at USİM. Additionally, Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Ayhan KIZIL Education Units have a reading and study hall with a capacity of 68 students, with online internet connection.

With the transition to the integrated education model, "Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine Good Medical Practices and Simulation Center" (USİM) was opened as of the 2016-2017 Academic Year and took its place in new education programs, thus the students of our faculty had a very important chance in education. The center, which includes innovations for freelance work such as "Clinical Skills Applications", "Cyber ​​Anatomy", "Cyber ​​Physiology", "Computer and Microscope Laboratories" and "Multidisciplinary Technology Areas", has 6 "Standard Patient Polyclinics" and five wireless advanced technology areas. A "Simulation Unit" containing a simulator was created. In the simulation unit, the capacity to perform numerous patient/disease samples has been created with application areas such as "Emergency Service", "Patient Observation Room", "Birth Room", "Ultrasonography", "Training Ambulance", "Virtual Reality" and "Body Interact".

Bursa Uludağ University Hospital, which has all kinds of advanced technological facilities where applied training is provided, has 898 beds. The hospital, with all its units, is one of the two medical faculty hospitals in Turkey accredited by JCI, an international organization. Our hospital has also recently succeeded in obtaining the ISO 9001-2008 quality certificate from SGS. Spa facilities are also offered to patients in the facilities where physical therapy and rehabilitation practices are carried out in the historical buildings in Kükürtlü, affiliated to our faculty. The 3-unit Education Family Health Center, which was opened within the Department of Family Medicine with the protocol signed with the Ministry of Health, offers our senior students the opportunity to experience primary health care practices on-site.

Children's Oncology and Hematology Hospital was put into service in 2015. In addition, the Gynecology and Children's Hospital Project, which is planned to have a total closed area of ​​161,000 m2 and includes the Emergency Service, Intensive Care Units, Operating Rooms, Angiography, Endoscopy and Bronchoscopy Units, Internal and Surgical Pediatric Polyclinics and Clinics, which will be equipped with the latest technology, will be tendered, is in the process.

Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine, which is among the leading medical faculties in our country today, will continue to be the reference point in the field of health in the Southern Marmara Region by showing continuous development.

Postgraduate Education

Our faculty, with a total of 166 Professors, 77 Associate Professors, 16 Doctor Lecturers and 38 Lecturer Doctors working in 41 Departments and 21 Branches affiliated to them, carries out pre-graduation education programs while also providing training in "Fundamental Medical Sciences", "Internal Medicine". It continues to train many specialist physicians in the fields of "Surgical Sciences" and "Surgical Medical Sciences". There are currently 72 Minor Specialization Students and 622 Specialization Students continuing their education.

The standardization of postgraduate medical education is aimed with the continuous development studies to be carried out by the "Postgraduate Medical Education Board", which is in the process of being established, together with the Department of Medical Education. For this purpose, the "Assistant Tracking System", whose software has been completed, has gained functionality. In addition, efforts to conduct the training and skill courses given to research assistants "online" have reached the final stage.

Research

             The academic faculty at our university consists of 166 professors, 77 associate professors, 16 faculty members with doctoral degrees, 38 doctoral teaching assistants, 72 residents specializing in subspecialties, and 622 residents, distributed among 41 departments and 21 scientific branches linked to these departments. While delivering pre-graduation training programs, our university, a distinguished research institution in our country, is actively involved in various original research projects in the areas of 'Basic Medical Sciences,' 'Internal Medical Sciences,' and 'Surgical Medical Sciences'.

Service

             Our faculty provides tertiary healthcare services to approximately 6 million citizens living in the Southern Marmara region, in partnership with other healthcare institutions in the region.
