About Department

PHYSİCS DEPARTMENT

Our department was established in 1983 within Faculty of Arts and Sciences. A four- year undergraduate education is provided in our department. Our main goal is to train students with problem analysis and solving skills, research and development ability, as well as analytical thinking skills. In this purpose, the theoretical and applied courses are carried out with all our department members. There are 11 Professor, 9 Associate Professor, 3 Assistant Professor, and 3 Research Assistant and 1 Physicist in our department. Our academic members continue the research in 5 different brunches such as Atomic and Molecular Physics, General Physics, Solid State Physics, Nuclear Physics and High Energy and Plasma Physics, and they carry out postgraduate education with their equipment and experience in these fields.

 

MISSION

As a productive department in science and technology that follows the developments, it is our main duty to train individuals who contribute to science and society with the basic philosophy of physics.

 

VISION

In addition to scientific knowledge and skills, our department aims to train individuals who are honest, have high ethical values, use social shares correctly, have innovative and competitive solutions in national and international platforms, and can convey the information they have acquired.

 

EDUCATION

Undergraduate students can graduate with a minimum average of 2.0 out of 4.0 from all the courses they have taken in the 240 ECTS degree system during their 4-year education.

Students must attend 70% of the classes. There is at least one midterm exam and one final exam for each course. While the contribution of the midterm to the success grade is 40%, the final exam contributes 60%. In order to be successful in the final exam, the student must get at least 50 points out of 100. In order to be successful in the course, the weighted average score must be at least 50.

 

TITLE OBTAIN AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Students who successfully complete the Physics undergraduate program receive the title of Physicist.

Our graduates can pursue an academic career by completing MSc and PhD programs in Physics under the Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences. They can teach in public and private education institutions, provided that they complete the formation education. They can work in industry, various public institutions, research and development centers, medical centers (imaging, health physics, etc.), computer companies, and banks. In addition, our department graduates can work as occupational safety specialists if they complete the necessary courses.
