On March 12, 2025, Prof. Dr. Amanda Yeşilbursa, the Department Chair of Foreign Languages Education, attended the English Language Teaching and Learning Roundtable hosted by the British Council Türkiye in Ankara. This event brought together leading teacher educators and representatives from various stakeholders in the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) in Türkiye.
Prof. Dr. Yeşilbursa networked with fellow educators, sharing insights and discussing emerging themes in current research in teaching English. Her interactions were not limited to educators; she also engaged with representatives from different ELT stakeholders, fostering a collaborative atmosphere aimed at enhancing the quality of English language education in Türkiye.
As the spokesperson for her group, Prof. Dr. Yeşilbursa presented the collective views and suggestions of her peers, emphasizing the need for smaller, scalable, regional focus group workshops. She proposed that these workshops be organized between the British Council and the English language teacher education programmes of Turkish universities to ensure the sustainability of the dialogue initiated at the recent British Council events, of which this roundtable was the most recent. Her suggestion was met with enthusiasm, as it promised a more localized and practical approach to addressing the challenges and opportunities in ELT. Further. cooperation with the British Council is expected in the near future.
