The Department of Turkish-Islamic Art is an academic discipline that examines the artistic perspective of Islamic civilization, its aesthetic values, and the interaction of this art with Turkish culture. This field addresses a wide range of art forms—such as architecture, calligraphy, illumination, miniature painting, ceramics, textiles, and metalwork—within both historical and artistic contexts. Research in the field includes studies on the development of Turkish-Islamic art under the Seljuk, Ottoman, and other Islamic dynasties; iconographic and stylistic analyses of artworks; the techniques used by artists; and the social contexts of the artworks. In addition to artistic production, the field also focuses on topics such as the waqf (endowment) system, book arts, and religious architecture, offering an in-depth exploration of the cultural and historical dimensions of Turkish-Islamic art.
