Our Postgraduate Alumni’s Success in the “Yılmaz Akkılıç Bursa Research Award”

As the Faculty of Architecture at Bursa Uludağ University, we are pleased to proudly share the
academic achievements of our faculty members and postgraduate alumni.
Dr. Elif Acar, a research assistant in our department, has been awarded the “Yılmaz Akkılıç Bursa
Research Award” in the doctoral category for her PhD dissertation titled “A Model Proposal for
Conservation of Rural Heritage with Cultural Landscape Approach: The Case of İznik Lake Basin,”
which she completed in 2023 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Figen Kıvılcım Çorakbaş.
Dr. Ceyda Şahin, another of our graduate alumni, received the “Jury Special Award” in the same
competition for her doctoral dissertation titled “The Evaluation and Conservation of the Spatial

Reflections of Bursa's Water Heritage in Traditional Residences” which she completed in 2024, also
under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Figen Kıvılcım Çorakbaş.
Furthermore, the Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Dr. Tülin Vural Arslan, served on the selection jury for the
above-mentioned award.
Organised without interruption since 2010 in collaboration with Nilüfer Municipality, the Bursa
Journalists’ Association (BGC) and the Akkılıç Family to encourage research contributing to Bursa’s
cultural and academic heritage, the “Yılmaz Akkılıç Bursa Research Award” continues to serve as a
significant platform in the field of urban studies. The publication of the winning works as books also
contributes to the dissemination of scientific output.
In this context, Dr. Saliha Tupal Yeke’s doctoral thesis, which was deemed worthy of the award in the
doctoral category last year, was presented to interested readers in book form at this year’s award
ceremony. This demonstrates once again the award programme’s mission to transform academic
outputs into permanent publications.
These achievements, which hold great significance in terms of supporting high-quality academic
research on Bursa’s cultural heritage, urban identity and historical legacy, once again demonstrate
our faculty’s research capacity and scientific productivity.
We sincerely congratulate our academic staff and postgraduate graduates and wish them continued
success.
