History
Our department commenced its educational activities in 1981 as the Department of Physical Education and Sports within the Higher Teacher Training School with 40 students. Following the establishment of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), it continued its academic journey as the Department of Physical Education and Sports under the Faculty of Education. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette on 11.11.2013 (Decision No. 2013/5530), the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Uludağ University Faculty of Education was restructured as the Faculty of Sports Sciences under the Rectorate of Bursa Uludağ University as of the 2014-2015 academic year.
Our department’s graduate programs were initially affiliated with the Social Sciences Institute in 1986, later transferred to the Health Sciences Institute, and are now conducted under the Institute of Educational Sciences.
Vision
The vision of our Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching is:
"To be a distinguished department that generates knowledge at an international level while providing high-quality education, continuously evolving, contributing at both national and global levels, setting an example with its graduates and research, and being a source of pride for its members."
Our department believes that defining mission and vision statements alone is not sufficient for institutional quality advancement. Instead, these principles must be transformed into tangible educational and research outcomes. Additionally, the department is committed to integrating its educational programs with its societal role. This integration will not only lead to continuous assessment and program renewal but will also foster a culture of quality awareness among students and faculty members.
Mission
The mission of our Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching is to:
Provide an environment where students can discover, develop, and engage their potential; equip them with contemporary knowledge; encourage openness to innovation; emphasize cultural awareness and communication; enhance their research and problem-solving skills; uphold universal ethical values; and cultivate individuals capable of leading their communities and delivering essential physical education and sports-related services needed by the country. Additionally, the department is committed to serving its stakeholders with a quality-oriented approach.
