The Vision of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to become a Department of Mechanical Engineering that conducts original research in the field of science and technology, trains the best Mechanical Engineers of the country with an educational system that complies with international criteria and is based on continuous development, makes significant contributions to the development of society's living standards and economic well-being, constantly develops and is shown as an example.

Mission

Mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering: To produce, apply and disseminate information for scientific and technological development at the international level, to be able to use engineering knowledge in accordance with the needs of society, to help the development of technologies of today and the future, to be able to work and communicate Decently, to aim that the results of their work will be socially and ethically useful to society, to train engineers who respect national values, by carrying out joint projects with production and service organizations, he has taken it as his duty to help these organizations develop their technologies.

General Information about the Program

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1976. in the 1976-1977 academic year, it started teaching at the undergraduate level, and in 1982-1983 at the master's and doctoral levels. since 1992, it has started to recruit students to teach night education as well as formal education in the undergraduate program. The Department of Mechanical Engineering currently teaches undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. The total number of students in the department is 1664, 505 master's degree and 108 doctoral students are studying under the supervision of the faculty members of the department. An English preparatory program is mandatory in formal and night education. The department has a total of 51 academic and 2 administrative staff. The distribution of the academic staff of the department, which has a large and rich academic staff, is given in Table 1.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has 5 main branches of science:

  1. Construction and Manufacturing,
  2. Thermodynamics,
  3. Energy,
  4. Machine Theory and Dynamics,
  5. Mechanic.

The department attaches particular importance to educating students in a way that meets the expectations of the industry and follows and applies new technological developments in the field of mechanical engineering.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is intertwined with industry due to the location of Bursa province, which is one of the important centers of the automotive and textile sector. Various projects (BAP, TUBITAK and SAN-TEZ, etc.) with companies in the automotive, textile and machinery sector, especially located in the province of Bursa, by the faculty members of the department.) and consultancy services are carried out.

A bachelor's degree program including basic sciences, engineering sciences, engineering design is being conducted in the Department of Mechanical Engineering to provide the engineering education required by the era. In order to ensure continuous program development in the desired direction and to improve the process of change in the evaluation of the collected data, determination / evaluation processes have been initiated by reaching out to stakeholders.

Faculty members in the Department of Mechanical Engineering have been advocates of the international accreditation system at the university since 2000 in order to support the continuous development process in education. between the years 2004-2006, studies were carried out intensively by ABET with the aim of achieving “Full Equivalence”.Dec. In particular, significant improvements have been made in the lesson plans and contents. The application could not be made due to financial difficulties experienced during the application process. However, the improvements made at that time and the understanding of quality gained are still being maintained. This self-assessment report is especially a result of the development efforts that have been carried out since the past. As a result of these evaluations and studies, in 2012, the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE)’s representative in our country, the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Education Programs (MÜDEK), was first accredited by the Mechanical Engineering Department until 2014 because it met all the conditions. after the second audit carried out in 2014, the accreditation was extended for another 3 years. As a result of the visit of MÜDEK evaluation team in 2017, our department has been accredited again until 30.09.2019.

Mechanical Engineering Program: Students who have successfully completed the Mechanical Engineering Department undergraduate program of the Faculty of Engineering are awarded a diploma with the name of the university, faculty and department written on it indicating that they have been awarded a “Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering” degree.

The curriculum is designed in such a way that students are prepared for professional life in an advanced way in engineering sciences. The training program is aimed at developing characteristics such as individual initiative, creativity, talent, leadership and openness to development, following and adapting to new technologies in the field of mechanical engineering. Basic and specialized courses are offered, which include topics such as Thermal and Fluid Science, Energy Systems, Applied Mechanics, Design and Production, Machine Theory and Control Systems. The courses are supported by the use of computers and experiments conducted in various laboratories, accompanied by teaching staff.

Mechanical Engineering Double Major Undergraduate Program: In accordance with the policy and regulations of Uludağ University, students are allowed to use the double major program. The aim is to enable successful students to get a degree from another undergraduate program as well. The double major program covers all the courses taught according to the curriculum of the other department. The equivalencies of the courses taken by students taking courses from other departments other than the Department of Mechanical Engineering are evaluated through the Double Major Program Coordinator, a member of the faculty in the department. Students are informed and encouraged to increase the demand for the program. Students who successfully complete the double major undergraduate program are awarded a diploma with the name of the university, faculty and department written on it stating that they are awarded a ”Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering".

Mechanical Engineering Side Field Undergraduate Program: In accordance with the policy and regulations of Uludağ University, a side field program is being implemented in order to ensure that successful students are informed about an area of interest in undergraduate education. Students who have successfully completed the minor field undergraduate program are awarded a Minor Field Undergraduate Certificate.

Mechanical Engineering Graduate Programs: In addition to the Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate program, the department also provides postgraduate education, which can be awarded with the title of master engineer and Oct. The demand for graduate education programs provided by the department is increasing every passing year.

Program Educational Objectives

The 4 educational objectives of the undergraduate program of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Uludağ University (EA) are as follows: (EA1) They can make positive contributions to the competitive conditions of organizations engaged in production, design and research and development activities. (EA2) They can design mechanical and thermal processes, components and systems and provide the necessary integration between them.
