The quality activities carried out at Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) in 2023 were awarded in a grand ceremony. Awards in seven categories were presented to faculties, vocational schools, units, academics, administrative staff, and students.
The BUÜ Quality Coordination Office, in a special ceremony held for the first time, announced the recipients of awards for their quality work conducted in 2023. Awards were given in the categories of Unit Quality Award, Social Contribution Award, Alumni Interaction Award, Student Satisfaction Survey Award, Quality Volunteer Award, Accreditation Award, and Special Quality Award to 25 units, academics, administrative staff, and students. The ceremony was attended by BUÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu and Prof. Dr. Zekeriyya Arı, academic and administrative staff, and numerous students.
In his opening speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz pointed out that the culture of quality is continuing to spread in a university that is half a century old. Prof. Dr. Yılmaz emphasized that they never found the current state sufficient and would continue to work for much better; “Our main goal is to achieve full accreditation for five years in our 50th year. Looking at the work carried out in general, we believe we will achieve this success. On the other hand, our improvements in terms of program accreditations are continuing. Our total number of accredited programs has reached the twenties. However, we do not consider this sufficient. We will support all departments and programs working on national and international accreditation efforts. We aim to increase our number of accredited programs significantly by 2025. We have taken many steps in quality in recent years. The number of our quality volunteer employees has also increased significantly. We want to stand out with our quality culture activities in the league of research universities we are part of. I sincerely congratulate everyone who received an award in this organization,” he said.
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu noted that the award ceremony was held to increase the quality culture within the institution. Prof. Dr. Kırıştıoğlu congratulated everyone involved in the quality work, which is carried out entirely on a voluntary basis; “We determined the awards based on applications. The units and individuals receiving awards were determined after the scores given by the jury. Unit quality activities, social contribution, quality volunteers, alumni interaction, and accredited or re-accredited units were deemed worthy of awards. The important thing here is the internalization and sustainability of the quality culture. Because it is a very long journey. Being able to continue is of great importance. The concept of continuous improvement will elevate the quality of our institution to much higher levels. The number of accredited programs in our faculties and vocational schools is increasing. This will lead us to success in different areas in the future. We want the efforts to generally continue in all units,” he said.
Quality Coordinator Lecturer Yasemin Özdemir emphasized that, with the establishment of the Higher Education Quality Council in 2015, quality assurance work has been systematically implemented at BUÜ, as in all universities. Lecturer Özdemir noted that the university has gone through the evaluation process by the Higher Education Quality Council three times during this period; “The interim evaluation after the last two-year accreditation in 2022 will be in the spring of 2025. Our goal is to achieve full accreditation for five years in our 50th year by working together. As a Coordination Office, our work in accordance with the criteria continues without slowing down. Today, we will present awards in twelve categories. We thank all the units and employees who applied for the awards and congratulate everyone who was entitled to receive an award,” she said.
After the speeches, awards were presented to the representatives of the winning units, academics, administrative staff, and students.
