Bursa Uludag University Faculty of Arts & Science Department of History started to give education at undergraduate level in 1990, graduate level in 1992, and doctoral level in 2006.
The Main Objective of Department of History
With regards to education, objective of Department of History is to teach historical events together with phenomena of politics, economics, and arts which influenced human kind as a social being since ancient age. In this context, the offered courses are designed to teach source materials and research methods which makes history a science, and to enable the students to analyze and interpret the events of the past. The department consists of six fields of study such as Ancient History, Medieval History, General Turkish History, Modern History, Contemporary History, and History of Turkish Republic.

Our mission is to train historians who have gained the ability to interpret and access information within scientific criteria with the dimensions of nationality, locality and universality.
Vision of Department of History
Within the scope of the Science of History, the main goal is defined as to continue to be a department that produces information and provides education at an international level, to carry out national and international projects in cooperation with other disciplines, and to achieve a continuity to reach better. In this context, surface surveys are carried out in Bursa and its surroundings, which contain rich historical material, and the information obtained from other sources and archival records that constitute the database of history is analyzed and studies are carried out to reach objective results. In order to evaluate the results obtained, the Department of History leads the organization of national and international scientific meetings in Bursa. In addition, it works in communication and cooperation with national and international history institutions.

Main Employment Opportunities for Graduates of Department of History
When the graduates of the History Department fulfill the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of National Education, they work as teachers in public schools, private schools and private teaching institutions. In addition, it is possible to become an expert in manuscript libraries, printing and publishing organizations, and archives. Historians with the necessary certifications can also work in the fields of tourism, promotion and guidance. Historians who are graduates of the department can be accepted to the Master's Program if they meet the prescribed general qualifications and foreign language criteria, and if they pass the exam, they can start their academic life as Research Assistants, or they can work as Lecturers in the Atatürk Principles and Revolution History Departments of universities.
