On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, an “Organ Donation Information and Awareness Seminar” was held at Bursa Uludağ University’s Vocational School of Health Services as part of the “Community Service Awareness” course.
During the seminar, the organ donation process was discussed in detail, clarifying common misconceptions within the community. Kerem Selimoğlu, one of the Organ and Tissue Transplantation Coordinators at BUÜ, shared up-to-date information in his presentation on topics such as the definition of organ donation, the critical differences between brain death and coma, concerns regarding the violation of bodily integrity, and the religious dimension of organ donation. Selimoğlu also compared the donation processes involving living donors and deceased donors, emphasizing the life-saving role of being an informed individual in this regard.
Rafet Oflaz, another Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordinator at BUÜ, emphasized the post-transplant procedures and the significant impact the family plays in this process. Evaluating transplant surgeries worldwide and in Turkey, Oflaz shared examples from his own professional experience to highlight our country’s successes in organ and tissue transplantation with the participants.
This important event, held to serve the community, fostered an interactive environment by addressing students' questions. At the conclusion of the program, Assistant Director of the College, Lecturer Dr. Arzu Öden Acar, presented certificates of appreciation to Organ and Tissue Transplant Coordinators Kerem Selimoğlu and Rafet Oflaz for the valuable information they shared and their contributions to raising social awareness. The event concluded with a group photo featuring the students involved in the organization and the speakers.
