October 29 is an important day when the Turkish nation declared its sovereignty and transferred the administration to the people. In 1923, after long wars and hardships, the Republic was declared by the Turkish Grand National Assembly under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. October 29th Republic Day is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm in various events held throughout the country and at our foreign missions to commemorate the deep memory of our struggle for independence and the proclamation of our Republic and to strengthen our naitonal unity and solidarity.
