The project, titled “Problem-posing with AI through Children’s Picture Books about EU Values” (PACE), prepared by faculty members of the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and awarded support within the scope of the Jean Monnet Module by the European Commission, brought together Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Arslan, Prof. Dr. Şehnaz Baltacı, Prof. Dr. Hülya Kartal, Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Aydın Koyuncu, and Prof. Dr. Yasemin Ertan during the visit.

SPECIAL THANKS FROM RECTOR YILMAZ
Rector Yılmaz emphasized that this high-quality initiative, supported by the European Union, would make a significant contribution to the university’s international visibility and to the quality of teacher education. He also stated his belief that the work would bring special gains for their category as a research university. Thanking the academics individually, Yılmaz underlined that they would closely follow the project process and were ready to provide all kinds of support.

INTERACTIVE MATERIALS WILL BE DEVELOPED
Providing information about the study, Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Şehnaz Baltacı stated that, within the scope of the project, a new elective undergraduate course titled “Children’s Books on EU Values and Problem Posing” would be offered in the Department of Mathematics Education at the Faculty of Education. She noted that the course would address mathematics education and European Union values through children’s books in an interdisciplinary approach. Within the framework of Türkiye’s Century Education Model, the course will enable pre-service teachers to apply AI-supported problem-posing techniques, critical thinking, and themes such as environmental sustainability by developing interactive materials.

Course Coordinator of the PACE project, Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Arslan, announced that the course would meet pre-service teachers at the Faculty of Education for the first time in the Fall semester of 2025. Arslan added that the project aims to disseminate EU values through a value-based and multi-stakeholder teaching approach compatible with digital transformation.
