Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek Zeren Özer, faculty member at Bursa Uludağ University, Faculty of Education, Department of Science Education, met with students at two different high schools as part of TÜBİTAK’s “Science Talks” program.
The first event took place on May 6, 2025, at Feriha Uyar Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, while the second was held on May 26, 2025, at İnegöl Mediha-Hayri Çelik Science High School. In both programs, she conducted a talk and workshop titled “Exploring and Classifying Biodiversity with the Scientists of the Future.” Doctoral student Ali Alkaya from the Department of Science Education supported the workshops.
During the events, the importance of biodiversity, ecosystem conservation, and classification methods were addressed through hands-on activities. Students worked on examples related to the classification of living organisms, gaining opportunities to develop their skills in scientific observation, comparison, and analysis. Additionally, scientific tools such as dichotomous keys were introduced, allowing students to experience scientific process skills firsthand.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dilek Zeren Özer emphasized that such activities play a vital role in increasing young people’s interest in science, encouraging them toward future scientific careers, and fostering an environmentally conscious perspective. She noted that the TÜBİTAK Science Talks Program provides a valuable platform to interact directly with students and raise scientific awareness. The program aims to bring scientists together with students across Türkiye, thereby enhancing the widespread impact of science in society.
