Significant progress underway
In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz highlighted that the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) evaluation process for 2024 has begun and emphasized the significant progress the university has made compared to the previous year. He stated:
“Our university has successfully activated its internal ecosystem of scientific research culture. The organization that began under the name ‘Thematic Coffee Days’ is now becoming a valuable brand and an important interaction network within this ecosystem. For that reason, I would like to sincerely thank everyone involved, especially the R&D Coordination Office.”
“We are working on green transformation”
Expressing his pleasure at attending the event, İnegöl Mayor Alper Taban spoke about the municipality’s sustainability initiatives. He emphasized the important role municipalities play in urban planning and public services:
“Municipalities are key actors in the green transformation process. Environmental and transportation policies, water and energy conservation, environmental awareness, and climate change strategies are all areas planned and implemented under municipal responsibility. We must transform our relationship with the environment into a sustainable one, and as İnegöl Municipality, we are undertaking serious efforts in green transformation.”
University-industry-government collaboration to grow
R&D Coordinator Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca stated:
“As the R&D Coordination Office, we will continue organizing activities to further spread the research culture. With this event, our aim is to bring together academics working in similar fields to share project ideas for the future, and to strengthen cooperation between the university, industry, and public institutions. Feedback collected via Google Forms after our first event revealed promising new projects, which made us very happy. We hope this event also results in similar fruitful outcomes.”
“We act with a sense of responsibility”
BUÜ’s Sustainability Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Kaya, summarized the university’s green transformation efforts:
“As we all know, the ecological crisis brings along urgent issues that require immediate solutions. Everyone shares responsibility in this area. As a university, we act with a strong sense of responsibility. In line with that responsibility, we are constantly working to strengthen our actions in this field. As a higher education institution, we understand that we are responsible for raising the next generation who will realize and sustain green transformation. To achieve this, we are updating our curricula, closely following developments in the field, and improving our educational infrastructure accordingly.”
The program, which continued with valuable conversations during the coffee break, concluded with a Q&A session.
