Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) announced the best academic performers of 2024 at the “Academic Performance Award Ceremony,” organized to increase the motivation of academic staff and support ongoing scientific work.
The program, organized by the BUÜ R&D Coordination Office, was attended by Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Cafer Çiftci and Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu, deans, directors, academic and administrative staff, and students.
“THE RESEARCH UNIVERSITY IDENTITY IS AT THE CENTER OF OUR VISION”
Rector Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz emphasized in his speech that BUÜ places the Research University identity at the core of its academic vision. He noted that the constructive competition among the 23 research universities designated by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) benefits the entire university system, and stated that BUÜ aims to advance further from its current position. Rector Yılmaz explained that the award ceremony recognizes academic activities contributing to the 31 performance parameters evaluated by YÖK, and that the university has shown significant improvement in its overall performance. He expressed confidence that, with the 2024 data, BUÜ will maintain and even rise within its current league with a score that reflects its true potential. He added that revitalizing the research culture is essential for reaching the goal of ranking within the top 1000 globally; that the university maintains a transparent and merit-based promotion system; and that they will continue to strengthen their academic staff through strong new recruitments. Yılmaz thanked all academics for their dedicated efforts.
“THE CEREMONY SYMBOLIZES THE UNIVERSITY’S SCIENTIFIC DETERMINATION”
R&D Coordinator Prof. Dr. Esra Karaca stated that the ceremony represents a gathering where the patience and effort required for academic production becomes visible, symbolizing the university’s scientific determination. Highlighting that the increase in research performance over the past two years is the natural result of the devoted work of all academics, Prof. Dr. Karaca explained that, with the mission of sustaining BUÜ’s Research University status, the R&D Coordination Office focuses on strengthening internal processes and improving the environment needed by researchers. She noted that 687 applications were meticulously evaluated over several weeks in this year’s award process, and announced that awards would be presented in 10 different categories, including Best Unit/Department, Science Awards, Young Researcher Incentives, and Service Awards. Karaca concluded her speech by thanking everyone who contributed to the organization, as well as the BAP Unit for providing additional budget support through the GAP Project, and congratulated all academics whose achievements provide inspiration.
