History
Our department, which initiated its educational mission in 1981 as the Department of Physical Education and Sports within the Higher Teacher School with an initial cohort of 40 students, sustained its activities under the Faculty of Education as the Department of Physical Education and Sports following the establishment of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK). As per the decision published in the Official Gazette on November 11, 2013 (Decision No. 2013/5530), it was decreed that the Department of Physical Education and Sports within Uludağ University’s Faculty of Education would continue its educational endeavors as the Faculty of Sports Sciences under the Rectorate of Bursa Uludağ University, effective from the 2014-2015 academic year.
The main academic branch affiliated with our department commenced its graduate programs under the Institute of Social Sciences in 1986 and was subsequently transferred to the Health Sciences Institute. It presently maintains its graduate educational activities under the Institute of Educational Sciences.

The Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching believes that institutional quality advancement relies not only on defining mission and vision statements but also on transforming them into concrete educational and research outcomes. Moreover, the department is committed to integrating its educational programs with its role in society. This integration will not only guide continuous assessment and renewal of programs but will also foster a quality culture awareness among students and staff within the institution.

The mission of our Department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching is to cultivate students who, in an environment that allows them to realize, develop, and engage their full potential, are equipped with contemporary knowledge, open to innovation, value cultural awareness and communication, possess strong research and problem-solving skills, adhere to universal ethical values, and have the capacity to lead within their communities. The department is dedicated to educating professionals who can meet the country’s needs for physical education and sports-related services and to providing quality-oriented services to all stakeholders.
