Examination, Measurement, Evaluation (Student)

General Information

Students are subjected to at least 1 midterm and final exam for each course.

The contribution of the midterm exam to the success grade is 40%, and the contribution of the final exam is 60%.

All exams are evaluated out of 100 points.

The Relative Evaluation Addition Limit is 20 points, the Final Examination Limit is 50 points, and the Raw Success Grade Lower Limit is 50 points (The Senate determines this information at the beginning of each academic year).

Students who receive one of the letter grades AA, BA, BB, CB or CC from a course are considered to have succeeded in that course. DC and DD grades are conditionally successful grades. For a student to be successful in a course in which he/she receives a grade of DC or DD, the general weighted grade point average (GPA) must be at least 2.00. Students who have taken all the courses required for graduation and have a GPA of 2.00 are considered to have passed the courses with DC and DD grades and are eligible for graduation.

End of Semester Grades

Success grades, letter grades and weight coefficients:

Letter Grade Degree of Achievement Weight Coefficient
AA Perfect 4.00
BA All right 3.50
BB Good 3.00
CB Centre 2.50
CC Passes 2.00
DC Conditional Pass 1.50
DD Conditional Pass 1.00
FD Failed 0.50
FF Failed 0.00

The weighted grade point average is calculated by dividing the sum obtained by multiplying the ECTS credits of the courses taken by the equivalent weight coefficients of the letter grades obtained from the courses by the total ECTS credits. Weighted grade point average is calculated as two digits after the comma.

YANO (Semester Academic Grade Point Average): The weighted grade point average of the semester in which the student is enrolled

GANO (General Academic Grade Point Average): It is the weighted grade point average calculated as of the end of the second semester, considering all the courses in the course plan of the department in which the student is enrolled since the student's entrance to the University.

Meanings of Other Letters

(D) Absent: It is given to the student who does not fulfil the course attendance obligation or the requirements for course practices. (D) is included in the grade point average calculation as (FF).

(S) Work in Progress: It is given to the student for the ongoing course(s). (S) is not included in the GPA calculation.

(E) Incomplete: It is given to the student who has taken the semester / year-end exam but cannot fulfil the laboratory, project, homework and similar obligations for a documented reasonable and valid reason. The student who receives (E) must complete the deficiencies within 15 days from submitting the grades to Student Affairs and receive a grade. Otherwise, (E) automatically turns into (FF) grade. However, in cases where the relevant unit accepts the excuse, the duration of the (E) mark can be extended until the beginning of the following registration with the recommendation of the department or programme head and the approval of the relevant board.

(G) Pass: It is given to the student who is successful/sufficient in education and training activities. (G) is not included in the GPA calculation.

(M) Exempt: It is given to the courses that students have taken in the higher education institution where they have previously studied and whose equivalence is recognised by the unit board with the recommendation of the department/program head but which do not have letter grade equivalents. (M) is not included in the GANO calculation.

(K) Fails: It is given to the student who is unsuccessful/inadequate in education and training activities. (K) is not included in the GPA calculation.

(C) Cancellation: For students who have previously taken and failed a course that has been removed from the curriculum or exemption/adjustment has not been made, taking into account the total ECTS credit load of graduation, this course is marked with (I) in the pre-graduation transcript. Courses marked with (I) are not included in the transcript and diploma supplement given after graduation.
