Dear students and young friends who are thinking of choosing our Faculty, one of the feelings and basic human needs that all human beings carry is undoubtedly ‘justice’. Since mankind began to live collectively and gradually formed the simplest forms of today's states, many agreements and laws have been made for the establishment of justice; many philosophers have thought about justice and have produced very valuable works that continue to have an impact even today.
Although the main purpose of law faculties is to train cadres who will carry out various legal professions, especially judgeship, prosecution and advocacy, this perspective is incomplete. The sine qua non of a good lawyer is the ability to think intellectually, inquisitively and analytically, supported by a deep general culture. Competence in this area not only makes graduates of law schools stand out wherever they are, but also enables them to enlighten the society. Therefore, seeing yourself not only as a lawyer but also as an ‘intellectual’ in the future will further develop your horizons.
Economic and technological developments, which confront all countries with brand new challenges, also deeply affect individuals, societies and legal systems. As seen in the Covid 19 pandemic, global warming and various internal conflicts emerging in our neighbouring geography, local problems can turn into global problems in a short time. Therefore, many problems have become transboundary and their solution requires international efforts. This situation has resulted in the influence of legal systems on each other. For this reason, legal education in our Faculty is not only seen as the transfer of the knowledge of ‘existing law’. Our education is structured in a way to ensure that our students not only ‘know and solve the problems of the past and the present’, but also ‘see and solve the problems of the future’. In this context, the annual system has been adopted instead of the semester system, which is seen to cause loss of time in legal education, and our course programmes are reviewed and updated every year.
Our elective courses in other social sciences such as economics, sociology, business administration, entrepreneurship, which are indispensable for a competent lawyer, make our students even stronger. In addition, our elective courses conducted in English constitute an important alternative for interested students. The ‘Career Planning’ course guides our students in drawing their own road maps by getting to know the legal professions in their first year. Our students have participated in national and international moot court, arbitration and mediation competitions many times. Approximately 2000 students have graduated from our faculty, which started its education and training activities in the 2007-2008 academic year and currently has approximately 1200 registered students. Our academic staff consisting of 6 professors, 6 associate professors, 20 assistant professors, 1 lecturer with PhD, 7 research assistants with PhD and 14 research assistants without PhD who are competent in their fields have carried out many original national and international studies. The master's and doctoral studies carried out by our faculty members play a major role in further improving the quality of education of our undergraduate students.
Bursa Uludağ University offers double major and minor education opportunities to its students in other faculties and departments. Our faculty has agreements with 1 university in Germany, 3 universities in Spain and 2 universities in Romania within the scope of Erasmus Exchange Programme and our students benefit from this opportunity. Student societies play an important role in the cultural and social activities of our students. Our Faculty, located on the sea shore at a very rare point of Gemlik Bay, offers its students modern classrooms as well as unique natural beauties.
Expressing that we share your excitement for the future, we heartily greet you and wish to see you among us.
