Innovative Solution to Icing with Smart Cement Composites from Bursa Uludağ University
The project, which was implemented under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Öztürk, a faculty member of Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, and with the participation of Research Assist. Alim Berk Çağlayan, the project aims to develop solutions to the problems of icing and snow accumulation with the support of TÜBİTAK 3501 - Career Development Program. The project titled “Development and Performance Evaluation of Cementitious Composites Containing Continuous and Discrete Carbon Fibers with Ohmic Heating Properties” will pioneer the development of energy efficient smart materials.
In the project, cementitious composites equipped with carbon fibers will be heated superficially with electric current, and the process of defrosting snow and ice will be carried out in a natural way. This environmentally friendly application will minimize environmental damage by providing a safe and sustainable solution without the use of chemicals or de-icers such as salt.
The results of the project will not only shed light on sustainable heating applications in building materials, but will also resonate in the academic field. The joint work of Prof. Dr. Murat Öztürk and Alim Berk Çağlayan aims to reach a leading position in the field of smart materials in Turkey with the development and testing of innovative composites.
We congratulate our faculty members and wish them continued success.
