ONLINE ORIENTATION PROGRAM FOR PREPARATORY STUDENTS

Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) School of Foreign Languages organized a 1-week Online Orientation Program for students who are newly enrolled at the University and will study English, German, Arabic, French preparatory classes before the academic calendar starts.

Stating that one of the areas most affected by digital transformation is foreign language education, Director of School Prof. Dr. İsmail Güler stated in his statement that they created a unique design model for BUÜ preparatory classes in this direction and that they are in the EAQUALS accreditation process, which is well-known all over the world.

Explaining that they created a design model that blends in-class and extracurricular learning processes in foreign language education, School Principal Prof. Dr. İsmail Güler; “We create foreign language preparatory education from synchronous and asynchronous lessons in line with the Flipped Learning method. In this context, lecture videos are sent to the students before the lesson and preparatory exercises are assigned to the lesson, thus saving time for hands-on and interactive learning in live lessons. While synchronous courses are conducted through interactive digital applications of books, extracurricular learning processes of students are followed by Learning Management Systems (LMS). For example, while the interactive tasks assigned to the students through the virtual classroom are automatically reported over the LMS, the writing and speaking projects assigned to the students as extracurricular work are given detailed and instant feedback by the advisor through digital applications. In assessing success, while online written and oral exams are conducted to measure what has been learned in-class, 21st century skills such as time-focused work, creativity and innovation, academic honesty, collaborative work, critical thinking and problem solving are taken into consideration in digital tasks performed outside of the classroom.
